Benefits of using a 3rd Party HCSA

What we mean by a "3rd Party HCSA" is that it is completely separate from similar solutions offered by most insurance providers. Why is that better? It comes down to two main reasons:

  1. Your company's HCSA should be "Last Payer", after any applicable spousal insurance plans have been exhausted. If your company uses an HCSA that is operated by their insurance company, unpaid claim portions automatically go to the HCSA instead of a spousal insurance plan. Keep your group benefit costs down by using a separate HCSA plan.
  2. A separate HCSA requires the employee to makes decisions about how to spend their annual limit. The benefit is not "hidden" inside a large group plan.
